Western North Carolina has many unique places to visit, depending on your likes; indoor and outdoor activities to participate in.  Just a few minutes to milepost 317.4 is one of the entrance to the famous Blue Ridge Parkway for motorist to enjoy the scenery.  There are many beautiful breathtaking waterfalls nearby, such as Catawba Falls, Linville Falls, Tom’s Creek Fall in Marion, Hickory Nut Fall and many others within a short drive.  Hiking, horseback riding, canoeing, kayaking, rafting, fishing and rock climbing, zip lining, picnic in the forest in the National State Parks, is all within close distance to Sugar Hill Cabin.  Mount Mitchell the highest point East of Mississippi can be excessed from Marion on NC 80 and the Blue Ridge Parkway.  Not to mention artistic downtown Asheville with its many fine restaurants, museums, art galleries, antique and gift shops, and nightlife.  There is always something to do all year, skiing at the nearby Sugar or Beech Mountain slops in the winter, watching nature’s wonder of changing of the colors in the fall, hiking and walking in the forest on a beautiful spring day, boating or taking a refreshing swim in the summer in the nearby lakes. For golf lovers Old Fort Golf Course is only 10 minutes, Linville Golf Club and Lake Lure Golf course is about 20-25 minutes to the cabin. Also there are many historical site and museums to discover such as Carl Sandberg’s home, Smith-McDowell House Museum, Historic Carson House in Marion and many others close by. The event calendar is full all year round with festivals, special events in celebration of our national heritage and Appalachian Lifestyle.
